,Introduction
Diverticulum – Hollow outpouchings occurring
anywhere from oesophagus to rectosigmoid
junction
It can be
1. Congenital – all layers of bowel present. Eg
meckel’s diverticulum
2. Acquired - muscular layer not involved.
, Embryology and anatomy
During first few weeks – primitive gut – foregut, midgut
and hindgut
Mid gut connected to yolk sac by vitellointestinal duct.
Normally it gets obliterated by 8th to 10th week of
gestation
Persistance- Spectrum of abnormalities associated with
Meckel’s diverticulum
