I made a meme about the scene in which Lysander tries to convince Helena,
Demetrius, and Hermia that he had indeed fallen in love with Helena and out of love
with Hermia. Lysander and Hermia had been hopelessly in love. They were so much
in love that they planned to elope against her fathers and the governments wishes.
They were going to run away and live happily ever after far away from Athens.
Helena was in love with Demetrius who also was in love with Hermia. While sleeping,
the wood elf, Robin, placed a “love potion” on Lysanders eyelids, mistaking him for
Demetrius. The intention was to make Demetrius fall for Helena so that everyone
could be happy. Instead, both gentlemen were now in love with Helena. For quite a
while both Lysander and Demetrius try to convince Hermia and Helena that they are
both now in love with Helena. Helena believes that this is a cruel joke. She also
accuses Hermia of being in on it. Hermia believes Lysander is joking at first. Hence,
in the meme, Hermia accuses Lysander of joking, only to realize that he is not.
Overall, the theme in the drama outlines the opposing forces of obedience and
assimilation based on society’s standards and the natural hunger and rebelliousness
of forbidden love. It is chaos versus order. Using the meme with Anakin and Padme is
perfect because it illustrates another “forbidden love” in which the lovers tried to bend
the rules of society to their will. These characters are another example of chaos
versus order.
