Instructions In Ray (2016), First Nations women’s contributions and roles in their societies were discussed. Compare women’s roles in your own culture or society, to traditional First Nations women’s roles or areas of influence. From Rivard & Littlejohn (2003), or the required videos, give three examples of how the Métis understood themselves as a distinct people. Give the era of Métis history you are referring to (ie. early fur trading, Battle of Seven Oaks and/or Red River Rebellion). Cite page numbers in APA 7th edition in-text reference. Your submission should be between 500 – 1000 words. Please include your name (as registered in the course) in the heading of your Word document. If citing a film, ensure you are citing it correctly. Marking criteria: (5 marks each): Structure and Organization: this includes full-length paragraphs with a topic sentence and 4-6 sentences for each paragraph. Single sentence paragraphs are not appropriate. Grammar, spelling, and clearly expressed answers. Is your font all the same? It should not be in italics, or bold font, or large font. Do no include poetry, or a single separated sentence to conclude your discussion (the mic drop sentence). Put everything in your own words, with proper references from the course material with page numbers. Topic Understanding and Relation to Course Materials: Have you covered all the week’s material and understood it? Did you include a reference to the week’s material in your assignment submission? Cultural Exploration & Knowledge (diversity, world views, spiritual, cultural values): For example, did you find instances where non-Métis identified them as Métis and distinct, which solidified who they were? Depth of Response (Original/Critical Thought): Was your response between 500 – 1000 words? Did you carefully read and watch everything in order for you to give a robust answer? Was everything in your own words without direct quotes? Directly quoted material does not count towards your required word count. Students are to complete the weeks readings and/or view the videos in the assigned weeks prior to preparing and submitting their assignment. Please make sure you are aware of the submission dates because students will not be permitted to submit two days after the due date has passed. Respond to the instructor's questions and share your perspectives and understanding of the assigned reading and/or video. You should also demonstrate a level of critical thinking and an active engagement with the course material. In order to do so, students are expected to support their response with relevant information from the reading(s) and/or video. DO NOT use any outside sources. Only material from the course is permitted. Use in-text referencing in APA. For example, (Smith, 2000, p. 20). In the required word count (500 - 1,000 words), direct quotes do not count towards your total word count. Please include your name (as registered in the course) in the heading of your Word document

Response.

Women’s roles have changed over the social, historical and cultural contexts due to

social economic and political change. In this response I will compare women’s roles in First

Nations societies to those in my own culture, and analyze three distinct ways in which the

Métis recognized their identity.

Contemporary Women’s Roles.

In the contemporary world, one is likely to meet many women engaging in very

crucial responsibilities such as supporting their families, fomenting education and

development as well as spurring the economy’s growth. Being primary family caregivers,

they are solely responsible for child and elderly members of the family and this in turn helps

sustain a stable family. Apart from home, women are proactive teachers, formal and non-

formal education supporters for everyone as education is essential for community uplift

(JAHAN-E- MANN). They are more inclined to the voting pool in the job business, but they

do face various problems including wage disparities and lack adequate promotions to higher

ranks.

Nevertheless, women keep making significant and invaluable inputs for the

sustenance and development of our society. This, in turn, proves that they are strong and

persistent to take many tasks at the same time. A woman is not only preparing for the future

as a care giver and teacher of the coming generation but also as an entrepreneur, leader and

an in innovator in various fields (JAHAN-E- MANN). As we keep on identifying and

working towards combating the barriers that they go through, we owe to acknowledge and

encourage the progress and the fight for equality that they are inquiring. In this manner, we

can design society as an environment that accommodates all challenges that women can

potentially face.
