In class we learned about physical properties of water, buoyancy, viscosity, thermal
conductivity and specific heat, for which today we will make an experiment to put
each property to the test.
EXPERIMENT 1: Buoyancy
, MATERIALS
Various objects, in this case styrofoam ball, lego piece, conch, balloon with air, glass
bottle, weight
Water container (large enough to submerge objects)
Scale, to measure weight
HYPOTHESIS
I believe the styrofoam ball and the balloon are the only objects that will
float.
PROCEDURE
1. Measure the mass (weight) of each object
2. Submergue each object in the water container and observe if it floats or
sinks.
3. Record the observations of which float and which sink.
RESULTS
FLOATERS SINKERS
styrofoam Ball Glass bottle
Lego piece conch
Balloon weight
DATA ANALYSIS:
The smaller the mass the more was the object likely to float up due to it being less
