, Factors that can Impact Topic
When assessing significant factors that could impact the topic of workplace wellness
programs, one bias or belief could be the fact that some may believe a workplace is not a place
where the wellness of employees should be a focus. Meaning the problems employees have
outside of work is simply not the employers problem. This factor could influence the
prioritization of workplace wellness programs by the employer. According to a study conducted
by the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine concluded many employers do not
promote their workplace wellness programs causing many employees to have no idea any
wellness program even exists.
A second significant factor that could impact the topic of workplace wellness programs
includes the assumptions that come with the word wellness. When it comes to wellness people
associate it with a positive connotation. This is a problem because it creates a bias that
workplace wellness programs are beneficial and great, but studies have shown that less than 50%
of employees believe their employer/workplace prioritizes their health (McCleary, 2010). With
that said, having a bias as such can cause specific issues to get overlooked. For example, an
employer may be implementing a workplace wellness program that reaches the bare minimum
requirements for the Affordable Care Act benefits, but employee health is not a priority.
Potential Obstacles
Demanding participation incentives amongst employees is one potential obstacle which
could cause interference with the population’s engagement in terms of workplace wellness
