Dear Sir / Madam
RE: Research Proposal: The role of gender and race in life satisfaction of elderly
people between the ages of 60-90 years.
I am currently an honours student in psychology at the University of South Africa. I
have a particular interest in discovering if race or gender plays a role in life
satisfaction of the elderly people, relating it to South Africa’s history of apartheid.
This is due to the fact that the ageing population is growing drastically than in
previous centuries, according to previous research conducted and statistics
worldwide. By conducting this research, it would contribute to the studies of the
ageing population and help society in understanding life satisfaction of the elderly
which might assist in meeting their needs.
The reason for approaching you is to submit this proposal for assessment by my
peer group (students who are also doing HMPYC80 this year). Research
methodology course has required the submission of this proposed project.
Therefore, it seems important to submit this project for assessment by my peers in
order to see what they think of the topic and of my ability to write a proposal for a
scientific study.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Yours Sincerely
Ms. N.C. Ballack
