Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) affects mostly elderly people who develop severe health issues from complications such as cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, and eye problems that significantly lower their quality of life. T2DM affects 7% of UK residents and costs the NHS 80% of its diabetes management budget making it a major health and financial burden. This paper looks at how education, physical activity, and blood sugar control can help older adults aged 65 and up improve their quality of life. This study has included multiple medical databases including PubMed CINAHL and Cochrane Library then used strict criteria to select appropriate research studies. Critical appraisal through CASP tools revealed three key themes to examine how diabetes education works with exercise and blood glucose monitoring to help seniors manage their diabetes better. This also includes identifying how nurses lead patient self-care and early treatment efforts with evidence-based strategies that help people above 65 manage their health better. The findings have illustrated that patients learned essential information from education that let them control their condition better and make healthy life decisions. Regular physical activity helps control blood sugar levels and protects heart health while improving quality of life but patients find it hard to stick to their workout routines because of their physical restrictions and practical problems. At the same time, patients need to follow their treatment plans and lifestyle changes to reap the benefits of education and exercise but psychological, cultural, and financial barriers make this compliance difficult. Nurses lead multidisciplinary teams to create personalized treatment plans that help patients with specific needs and overcome challenges while getting more involved in their care. In conclusion, teaching patients about diabetes management combined with exercise programs and treatment adherence strategies produces the best results for elderly T2DM patients.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) affects mostly elderly people who develop

severe health issues from complications such as cardiovascular disease,

nerve damage, and eye problems that significantly lower their quality of life.

T2DM affects 7% of UK residents and costs the NHS 80% of its diabetes

management budget making it a major health and financial burden. This paper

looks at how education, physical activity, and blood sugar control can help

older adults aged 65 and up improve their quality of life. This study has

included multiple medical databases including PubMed CINAHL and

Cochrane Library then used strict criteria to select appropriate research

studies. Critical appraisal through CASP tools revealed three key themes to

,examine how diabetes education works with exercise and blood glucose

monitoring to help seniors manage their diabetes better. This also includes

identifying how nurses lead patient self-care and early treatment efforts with

evidence-based strategies that help people above 65 manage their health

better. The findings have illustrated that patients learned essential information

from education that let them control their condition better and make healthy

life decisions. Regular physical activity helps control blood sugar levels and

protects heart health while improving quality of life but patients find it hard to

stick to their workout routines because of their physical restrictions and

practical problems. At the same time, patients need to follow their treatment

plans and lifestyle changes to reap the benefits of education and exercise but

psychological, cultural, and financial barriers make this compliance difficult.

Nurses lead multidisciplinary teams to create personalized treatment plans

that help patients with specific needs and overcome challenges while getting

more involved in their care. In conclusion, teaching patients about diabetes

management combined with exercise programs and treatment adherence

strategies produces the best results for elderly T2DM patients.
