,Course Aspects
The Community Health Nursing course is an 8-week active learning course with
new modules and key concepts each week. This course will explore community health
nursing including the role of an RN in the community health setting, working with
diverse populations, disease management, health promotion, mental health
awareness, advocacy and health policy, and community health leadership. The
information taught in this course is relevant to professional nursing practice, as
students will gain knowledge that will benefit them not only in the community health
setting, but also in every setting within the nursing field, such as how to manage
diverse population and disease management. The learner will benefit from taking
this course by gaining skills on how to manage populations in the community health
setting, as students should not solely focus on specialty settings while in nursing
school. Students will also benefit from this course as they learn different skills related
to interprofessional collaboration that they will utilize throughout their careers.
Cultivation of course
This course consists of eight weekly course topics that have been identified
as key concepts for community health nursing. These weekly topics will cultivate the
development of this course as a new topic is identified and taught each week. The
course is designed to facilitate student-centered learning and each week the
concepts will build upon the concept taught the previous week. In week one,
students will be introduced to community health nursing, the information learned in
this initial week will lay the foundation for the importance of the following week's
lessons. Weeks two and three will focus on the diversity of patients in the community
health setting and identifying community needs through assessments. Students will
, learn about disease prevention/health promotion and addressing health disparities in
weeks four and five.
