The chosen topic for the wellness project is work-life balance. The humanities lens is the most
suitable approach to gaining insight into how wellness affects society. This lens helps us
understand how a good or bad work-life balance has impacted our actions and work as human
beings. Balancing heavy workloads, managing relationships and family responsibilities, while
finding time for ourselves and our interests, is a struggle for most of us. Each country has its own
work culture, with some nations having a better work-life balance than others. The Netherlands
is ranked the highest in terms of having the lowest percentage of employees who work long
hours. Denmark, France, and Spain are also among the countries that have a better work-life
balance. However, the USA is ranked 30th out of 38 countries in terms of work-life balance.
, Most full-time workers in the USA work for over 8 hours a day, and more than 10% of
Americans work over 50 hours per week. Additionally, two-thirds of Americans feel that they do
not have a good work-life balance. (Thomas, 2021.)
1. Analyze your chosen issue or event through one of the general education interdisciplinary
lenses to determine its impact on various institutions.
The humanities lens encompasses various disciplines, including cross-disciplinary fields like
women's studies. Other examples are ethnic/cultural studies, history, English, and religious
studies. This lens is essential for human survival. "The name of the game is to keep adapting our
practices, our services, and our products to a very fast changing world (Montgomery College,
2014, 1:18). When one fails to maintain a healthy work-life balance, the consequences can be
quite severe. It results in mental exhaustion and can be detrimental to relationships with your
family. For instance, if you end up working long hours and giving little to no time to your loved
ones, it can lead to feelings of neglect and isolation. Similarly, it can also affect your mental
health, leading to stress, anxiety, and depression. Hence, it is crucial to ensure that you strike a
