Purpose
The objective of this assessment task is for you to demonstrate your skills in using and
responding to spoken language in sustained discussions for the purpose of exploring issues or
problem-solving.
Task Introduction
In this assessment task you will select a question based on gender equality in sport.
In pairs you will research information about the chosen topic by sourcing two texts that could
inform the arguments that you present either for or against the question posed.
You will evaluate these two texts and argue a point of view and respond and evaluate the
arguments of others.
You will do this in two ways.
A written opinion of 400- 600 words length
and
A spoken opinion
You should note that the spoken form may be done in a variety of ways with the aim of trying
to convince or change the minds of others (Teacher can/will help facilitate):

AT4 Gender Equality In sport
Have a whole class discussion leading to a consensus on the topic leading to the
creation of an affirmation video.
Find another pair that will oppose your point of view and conduct a discussion in a
small group recording your discussion.
Create a panel of four people. Each member will be required to present a point of view
based on the role they have been assigned.
Consider the forms of rhetoric or appeals and persuasive techniques and devices you will use
to sway your audience to your point of view.
Research information that supports your argument with facts, and statistics (e.g. statements
from experts/graphical representations of statistics or data/ evidence provided from expert
research/commentary from key stakeholders).
Assessment criteria
In this assessment task you will be required to demonstrate an ability to:
Construct an argument using persuasive devices and techniques when talking about an
issue related to gender equality in sport
Write an opinion piece that uses persuasive techniques and tools.
Use spoken language for the purpose of contributing related to gender equality in
sport
Use spoken language for the purpose of exploring ideas
Demonstrate active listening skills through commenting on the range of ideas
presented
Evaluate and edit your written opinion as a persuasive text
Use the conventions of spelling, punctuation and grammar and grammar
