The Joint Commission is a crucial MIPPA approved accreditation body that helps to
prevent risks that occur within the healthcare environment. To ensure each healthcare facility and
environment is equipped to handle the risks that occur within the healthcare environment the
administration team must create a plan that addresses the risks, this plan should be aimed at
prevention of risks within the healthcare environment. One source states “the goal of risk
management in healthcare is to identify risks before they occur to reduce the risk of them arising
in the future” (Paredes, 2023). The Joint Commission is tasked with implementing roles into
healthcare facilities to ensure patient safety such as reducing the number of patients that fall each
year in a healthcare environment. The Joint Commission also ensures patients receive high
quality care while in the healthcare facility. This paper will address the roles of administration,
the legal and ethical responsibilities health care professionals face, how the organization's quality
improvement processes support and contribute to the prevention of future events.
The Role of Administration
The administrator plays a vital role within the organization’s risk management team. The
administrator ensures all employees are properly trained and up to date on all educational
requirements, ensuring compliance with all standards. The administration provides prevention
education to ensure patient safety. One source states “A critical element of any effective safety
and health plan is a proactive, ongoing process to identify and assess hazards” (OSHA,2025). To
achieve this the organization’s plan should include monitoring, assessing and improving patient
care. The role of the unit director would be to assess all employees to ensure they can comply
with the new plan being set forth. Further, if a fall occurs or an employee does not comply with
the new fall prevention plan then the employee will be trained again and re-educated on the fall
