, eLecture 2.1
Basic determinants of behavior
Want to change the determinants so that the behavior also changes
Example: Psychological determinants health behavior population health problem (often starts
here)
What influences this relationship: Evidence from determinants analysis, psychological plausibility and
experimental evidence
Yellow squares are motivational factors, like pros and cons, attitudes, expected outcomes, outcome
beliefs, seriousness, vulnerability, fear, risk perception
Orange squares are control factors, are they able to control their behavior like perceived behavior
control, self-efficacy, task difficulty, ability, skills, mastery, attributions
In the simplest form, there are two core factors that underly behavior
All external factors that influence behavior, like personality, are mediated
by these two factors.
