Task 2
B. Research Topic
School-wide behavior management and supports implemented with fidelity.
Despite
age of the students and the grade level, all schools have behavior issues. My current school
has
362 students with 430 discipline referral thus far. This roughly averages slightly over 1
referral per student, some students have received 0 referrals so far this years, while
other 23 students have averaged 5 or more referrals, and another student has
incurred 36 referrals. With this amount of discipline referrals, staff must be certain
that they are implementing the behavior management system and supports with
fidelity.
, C. Problem Statement
The problem is that a majority teachers are not implementing the behavior
management system effectively or with fidelity. Currently, teacher are supposed to be
documenting behavior infractions within the school computer system and sending the
report to the office for review. Many teachers are not following the process and are just
sending the student to the office without documenting the infraction. Having 6 new
teachers to the building is contributing to
this issue as they have not been properly informed on the procedures of the behavior
management system and professional development is needed. Teachers are needing
an understanding of the behavior management system and procedures to create a
cohesive team between the teacher and administrator throughout the referral
process. The effect of
executing a consistent behavior management system school-wide can positively impact
the
school climate as the students’ instructional time will increase, which will also
increase their success rate.
