What is Communication?
Communication is from Latin meaning "to share". It’s sharing ideas, sharing
information, sharing feelings, means sending or receiving all this. There are
different forms of communication, to share what we want to express. And is
important as humans to be able to communicate with others in society.
Why is important?
Communication effectively it is important because communication is vital,
essential and fundamental in a health and social care setting to deliver the
best care possible. The patient and the health professional need to understand
each other in order to find out the physical, intellectual, emotional and social
needs of a certain individual because, each individual is unique.
Communication Cycle
The communication cycle is the process that individuals used to transmit a
message between the sender and the receiver.

1. Sender. The sender is the one to start the conversation by preparing and
sending a message. The sender has a clarity idea in his brain. To start a
conversation the sender starts for get receiver attention and then expresses
the concern. To get receiver attention the sender needs to maintain eye
contact to avoid distractions.
2. Message. The message is sent it when you express, and you state your
concern by spoken words or body language. You need to make sure you pass
the correctly message to prevent misunderstandings. Make the message clear
and simple so the individual receives and interpret the message as you
intended.

, 3. Receiver. Then the receiver collects the message from the sender, then the
receiver processes the message to give a feedback to the sender. The receiver
does more than just listen what the sender says, because involves heard and
think what the sender meant and then think by absorbing and filter the
message.
4. Confirmation / Feedback. The confirmation or feedback is what the sender
heard ad understood from the message. Its effective communication when the
sender receives a positive feedback.
 Forms of communication
There are 3 forms of communication: verbal, non- verbal, and alterative
communication. Each one with multiples different types.
 Verbal
Verbal communication is the message is transmitted through the spoken
words. Here the sender gives words to his ideas.
Face to face
Common way to communicate is by talk with people face to face. In medical
appointments doctors and nurses talk with them patients face to face.
Written
Use of written words. Text messaging is one of the most popular way that
people used to communicate. It is easy today just send a message to the
individual that is very far away from you with your phone or tablet. Most NHS
hospitals, GPs and private health services used text messaging to cancel and
reminding the patient of an appointment. Letters are also a type of verbal
communication and health and social care services used to contact individuals.
The letters such as screening, results and confirmation of appointments are
sent to the individual’s home, so they don’t need to go direct to the health
services.
 Non-verbal
Communicate with individuals without the use of words either written or
spoken. This method of communication can or not be used along with a verbal
communication with the purpose to emphasize parts of a verbal message.
