What is your initial business idea?
The initial business idea is a high street Flower shop/Florist to provide customers with
flowers and other gifts for every occasion - birthdays, anniversaries, get well soon,
Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. As we are newly set up, we do not provide
products and services to large events (e.g. weddings) however, we plan to do so in the
future if our business proves to be successful. The name of the business that we have come
up with is “EL Rosa”, which translates from Spanish to “The Rose” in English. The name of
the business is relevant to what the business is about, a flower shop. The slogan that we
came up with is “petals above the rest”. The word “petals” relates to the flower shop. The
overall phrase means putting flowers before everything else, the message to people is to
put behind their troubles and just buy flowers, as they are more important than anything
else, which makes the slogan a call to action and encourages people to make a purchase.
We came up with several different ideas before we decided to open a flower shop. One of
the ideas that most of us agreed on was a coffee shop. the reason we thought of this was
that most of in the team have quite some knowledge on coffee shops, we had an idea on
what products we will sell, how the coffee shop will look like and suggestions of the names.
Another idea that we came up with was something to do with nutrition and health, such as
a nutritionally healthy meal business, where we offer customers to subscribe to our service
and we deliver healthy readymade meals or the ingredients to make the meals to their door.
We thought of this idea because some of us in the group have an interest in health and
nutrition and want to help others live a healthy lifestyle. The last idea that we thought of,
that we have chosen as our main idea was the flower shop. The reason we thought of this
was that some of us in the team have a lot of knowledge on growing plants and flowers, and
also have an interest in it. We came up to this conclusion of picking flower shop as our main
business idea because we had more interest in it compared to the other ideas, we also have
the most knowledge in this idea, and we also thought that flower shop is a simple and
straightforward idea, and something different compared to what others are doing.
Who is Involved?
Name, Name, Name and Sadia – we all contribute in different ways, bringing our own
unique skills together to provide the best service to our customers and ensure our business
does well. We came together last year when we started this course (Extended Diploma in
business and Finance) and performed many tasks within the class like presentations and
open discussions. Where we have collaborated with one another effectively, coming up with
creative new ideas and solve problems which cannot be solved individually. One of the key
benefits of group work in class and in business is that it helps to increase productivity, as
each individual in the group brings unique skills and prospective, coupled with their
individual skills and knowledge, which together helps the groups to achieve their shared
goals. This group would be perfect for this assignment as we all have something unique in
us, which concludes the right skills to present the work, gathering the right research and
linking it to the business and having the potential to stick to achieve our targets.
