This course examines science and technology as social institutions, belief systems, and practices with an emphasis on how socioeconomic, political, and cultural variables affect scientific ideas and technological applications. The first part of the course, "The Sociology of Science," Sessions 1 to 12, examines science as an institutionalized culture that produces and explains knowledge about the world using sociological and other social scientific frameworks.
