The mushroom Astraeus odoratus was found to produce mixture of polyhydroxyalkanoates including 3-hydroxybutyrate as a major product during cultivation on malt extract. The guttation product from the fungal mycelia was analyzed by fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).
