Heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure, occurs when the heart muscle is unable to
pump blood efficiently to meet the body's needs. This can lead to a buildup of fluid in the lungs and
other body tissues.
Types of Heart Failure:
- Left-sided heart failure (most common)
- Right-sided heart failure
- Congestive heart failure (involving both sides)
Common Symptoms:
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue and weakness
- Swelling in legs, ankles, and feet
- Rapid or irregular heartbeat
- Persistent cough or wheezing
- Increased need to urinate at night
Common Causes:
- Coronary artery disease
- High blood pressure
- Previous heart attack
- Cardiomyopathy
- Heart valve disease
- Diabetes
