Text - the verbal record of a communicative event. A text has texture (structure) and this is what distinguishes it from something that is not a text. The texture is provided by the cohesive (co-textual) RELATION'. Cohesive relationships within a text are set up 'where the INTERPRETATION of some element in the discourse is dependent on that of another.

Language - dipped in the ELR we live in, the environment is very important for the proper interpretation of language. Our linguistic competence (the knowledge of the language) can be put to communicative purpose only in a specific and appropriate surroundings.

Speech, in whatever shape, is normally characterized by formal characteristics and presents a manifestation of a certain genre. Genres may vary in terms of the number and explicitness of formal markers.

Language competence - incorporates both a linguistic (grammatical) and communicative competence. In language, it is important not to be only grammatically competent and be able to produce grammatically correct structures in a particular code, but also it is very important to be communicatively competent and know how and when to use particular structures.

A difference can be made between direct speech acts, when we use a piece of language for its basic intended purpose, such as when we want information, we ask a direct question.
